Stellantis Malaysia Officially Commences Local Assembly of Leapmotor Vehicles - The Flagship C10 SUV

Stellantis Malaysia recently announced the official commencement of its local assembly operations for Leapmotor vehicles at the Stellantis manufacturing hub in Gurun, Kedah. Representing a milestone for the nation’s growing electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, the localised assembly line has officially initiated production, headlined by the award-winning Leapmotor C10, and to follow soon with the B10.

This strategic initiative signals Stellantis’ long-term commitment to establishing Malaysia as a vital manufacturing hub, driving local industrialisation while making high-tech, premium electric mobility accessible to the Malaysian market.

To accommodate the advanced manufacturing standards of Leapmotor’s high-tech electric vehicles, Stellantis has allocated EUR 2.23 million toward localised assembly development. With C10 production currently ongoing, operations will expand to include the B10, with assembly slated to commence by the end of 2026. Additionally, Stellantis has secured a capital expenditure (CAPEX) of EUR 3.1 million specifically earmarked for production line and infrastructure upgrades at the Gurun facility.

Isaac Yeo, Managing Director of Stellantis ASEAN said, "The start of Leapmotor’s local assembly operations at our Gurun plant is a landmark achievement that places Malaysia at the forefront of EV industrialisation in the ASEAN region. As a crucial pillar within Stellantis APAC region for global growth, Malaysia is uniquely positioned to drive our regional expansion and lead by example. By leveraging Stellantis’ strategic partnership with Leapmotor, we are not only accelerating Stellantis' regional electrification roadmap, but delivering high-tech, accessible mobility solutions for consumers while upskilling our manufacturing capabilities."

While the immediate production roadmap focuses on supplying high-quality vehicles for the Malaysian market, Stellantis continues to strategically evaluate prospective export opportunities from Gurun to the wider ASEAN region.

To manage Leapmotor’s advanced software and vehicle architectures, technical personnel and assembly operators based at Stellantis Gurun have undergone specialised training. Consequently, the workforce at the facility is now certified to safely handle high-voltage electric vehicular systems rated up to 800V, serving a crucial role in preparing Malaysia’s local workforce for the electrified future of the automotive industry.

Leapmotor and Stellantis have implemented a unified global framework governing assembly and quality compliance protocols to guarantee manufacturing standards. Following comprehensive validation, these localised operations have secured official endorsements from supervising Stellantis multidisciplinary teams as well as recognised Malaysian and global regulatory authorities.
